This position will join a team in our Marine Operations Management department (MOM).
What we’re looking for
The Performance Monitoring Specialist will play a crucial role in advancing the energy efficiency of our vessels and fleet, contributing to our strategic sustainability targets and efforts to reduce emissions (read more about those in our sustainability pledge and the annual report). This position ensures meeting the expectations of both internal and external stakeholders regarding vessel and fleet performance and emissions data and insights.
Join the Energy Efficiency & Performance team dedicated to enhancing energy efficiency through technical and operational improvements, including vessel performance monitoring, data analysis, reporting, and optimization. Your goal will be to drive vessel performance monitoring activities to optimize vessel condition and operation for better voyage and environmental performance. In this role, you will take the lead in developing and maintaining advanced vessel performance monitoring and analysis tools and processes. You will drive the enhancement and creation of internal dashboards for data visualization and support the establishment and tracking of performance-related KPIs.
You will use various data sources, including as noon reports and real-time high-frequency sensor data, to ensure adequate analysis and maintain up-to-date performance data on vessels and fleet.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and maintenance of advanced vessel performance analysis tools and processes.
- Support the setting and continuous follow-up of performance KPIs.
- Monitor and analyze fleet and vessel performance data to identify trends and deviations to support operational optimization.
- Lead efforts in consolidating and visualizing emission-related data, developing and maintaining advanced analysis dashboards and tools for streamlined data interpretation.
- Provide performance data insights and reports to Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s technical and operational teams.
- Coordinate with other cross-functional teams and ship management on operational performance-related issues and best practices.
- Collaborate with monitoring systems and reporting vendors to enhance capabilities, data quality, and reliability.
- Lead and participate in assigned activities and projects, ensuring completion within agreed scope and timelines.
Qualifications:
- Minimum three to five years of experience in a similar role involving performance monitoring and analysis.
- Deep expertise in the vessel performance domain
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a digital-first mindset for process improvement using digital tools
- Experience with statistical analysis and getting insights from data, particularly with tools such as Power BI and SQL
- Proficiency in modeling methods and advanced statistics
- Experience with machine learning techniques and high-frequency data is highly advantageous
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Proactive, quick learner, and adaptable to new technologies and methods
- Fluent in written and spoken English
Nice to haves:
- Ideally possessing a M.Sc. in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Data Analytics, or a closely related field (B.Sc. and relevant experience can be sufficient)
- Understanding of ship hydrodynamics, resistance, and propulsion, as well as marine engine systems
- Proficiency in modeling, simulation, and programming
